In parallel to ecobuild shanghai 2006 runs an academic exchange program between the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg and Tongji University in Shanghai. Beginning of September 2005, Prof. Gerhard Schmitz from the Technische Universitaet Hamburg – Harburg held a series of lectures to 15 master students from the Tongji University, from the Mechanical & Automotive Engineering Department on the topic: "New developments in the field of air conditioning systems of buildings and vehicles".

These lectures are organized in the frame of a regular exchange between the Tongji University and the TUHH that started in 1992. Previously, Mrs. Prof. Xu Jihuan from Tongji University visited Hamburg with a lecture on "Gas Combustion and Utilization".

Prof. Schmitz also participated to a conference on building energy conservation in Hangzhou, Zhejang province, on 25./26.8.2005 with the lecture: "Gas Driven, Desiccant Assisted Air Conditioning of an Office Building in Hamburg Germany". Another lecture on new developments in the field of air conditioning systems took place at Jialing University, in Hangzhou, on 26.8.2005.
