Bayer MaterialScience at ecobuild shanghai 2006:

Vision Works in Ecological Buildings

Bayer MaterialScience showcased a broad range of eco-friendly materials in line with the theme “Vision Works in Ecological Buildings” at ecobuild shanghai 2006 at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum from Nov 8 – 10.

This event aimed at demonstrating the broad range of ecologically sound solutions related to construction - including planning, architecture and engineering, building technologies, interior decoration, energy as well as the environment. It was organized jointly by the Shanghai Construction & Transportation Commission and the Hamburg Ministry for Urban Development and Environment.

“With our portfolio of polymers and high-tech engineered plastics, and our expertise in customizing solutions to meet specific needs, Bayer MaterialScience is well-placed to provide the green solutions that projects such as ecobuild shanghai 2006 embody,” said Mr. Michael Berger, Chief Administrative Officer of Bayer MaterialScience Greater China.

Such solutions are reflected in Bayer’s innovative new products and technologies for building applications, architectural glazing, thermal insulation, alternative energy solutions, and environmentally-friendly coatings, he said.
Speaking at the conference, Andrew Tong, Senior Innovation Manager, New Business APAC at Bayer MaterialScience, illustrated how the use of polyurethane and polycarbonate in building materials could be utilized to increase the energy-efficiency of buildings.

“Through innovations such as Bayer’s Polyurethane-based External Thermal Insulation Composites Systems (PU-ETICS), potential savings in the consumption of energy over the long run can be substantial. This means savings for developers, users, and society in general,” Tong noted.
Bayer MaterialScience is a market leader in the polymers and high-tech engineered plastics industry, supplying raw materials used in the construction of all types of buildings worldwide, as well as infrastructure such as highways and bridges.
